Thank you for the photo of the BSA WW2 paratrooper's bicycle. The very first of these machines, was developed by BSA very rapidly in 1942. These were painted 'dark olive' [nearly black] and for pedals had a single axle shaft which could be pushed through the hole in the crank so that they did not stick out.
Later bicycles were painted khaki [like yours] and had conventional pedals. BSA even continued production for civilian use for one or two years after the war. Many tens of thousands were made and they are still 'discovered' anywhere where the war took them - all over Europe, the middle east and the Orient.
